Welcome to the
website of the Wake County Young Democrats (WCYD)!
This site provides information about activities occurring in
our political community and how you can get involved.
I invite you to explore our site and join us.
Who
we are?
We are a diverse group of registered Democrats ages 18 to 35 with an
interest in strengthening our communities and our democracy
through meaningful participation in the political process.
Our
mission is to
stimulate and provide an outlet for young people who have an interest
in governmental affairs and want to be more involved in the
political process.
Further, we aim to promote the acquisition of political
power by young people
and to make members of the Democratic Party aware that we intend to take an active role in party affairs.
Young
people are part of the natural constituency of the Democratic Party.
One
of our greatest challenges,
as Young Democrats, is the disaffection and disillusionment of
many young people in the political process.
While there are indeed many troubling shortcomings in the
current system (e.g., its plutocratic inclinations, the influence of
fundamentalism, the politics of division), we must endure.
The
Wake County Young Democrats are moving forward, building on the
energy of the '06 election, and affirming with confidence
that our values are the core values of America: hard work, social responsibility,
liberty,
fairness, and equal opportunity.
I hope you will join us in our efforts.
